Reading Initiative

Introducing: The Kid Care Reading Initiative
Greetings Kid Care Pediatrics Families:
Your doctors and nurse practitioners are committed to make
sure your child understands the importance of lifelong reading
enjoyment!
Research has shown that children who are exposed to books in
early childhood learn how to read at an earlier age. Knowing
this important piece of information, we have made books available
in our clinics for your child to take home.
The Kid Care Reading Initiative (KCRI) is our program to help
your child love reading. When you walk into the clinics, you
will see books at the entrances. Your child is very welcome
to select a book to take home. We appreciate donations and
exchanges, but they are not necessary for your child to pick
out a book.
Reading with your child is a loving, connecting experience
plus, this activity enhances her education. Take your time
allowing her to select a great book.
We recommend you set aside a time each day to read with your
child. Read to a younger child, and let him participate by
repeating words and pointing out pictures. Older children can
read to you or siblings to show off their fine reading skills!
Ideally, a time should be chosen when your child is relaxed.
Your child should expect reading time. The time prior to
bedtime is commonly chaotic, but reading can relax your
child and give
him quality time with a parent. Even if you do not enjoy
reading, you may be surprised how fun the experience of
sharing a book
with your child can be. Don’t give up if you miss a
night or forget. Your goal should be approximately 5 days
per week.
Also, any extra reading time thrown in at your leisure is
beneficial.
KCRI is made possible by our dedicated clinic staff and the
leadership of Angilique Falcon, LVN - Director of the Kid
Care Reading Initiative. Nurse Falcon brings experience from
her
previous involvement in the Reach Out and Read Program prior
to taking a position at Kid Care Pediatrics.
Thank you for sharing your child’s healthcare needs with
Kid Care Pediatrics, we appreciate the privilege of taking
care of your child’s health. We hope this reading opportunity
is a great way for your child and family to share a love
of books!
Good luck and best wishes,
Lisa E. Lewis, M.D. & the entire Kid Care Pediatrics
staff
